Chakra Balancing for Our Wellbeing

If you haven’t heard of the word chakra before, this word or term or understanding has been around for thousands of years. It is a Sanskrit word, and the literal meaning is “wheel”.

There are seven main chakras that run along your spine. They start at the root, or base, of your spine and extend to the crown of your head. Each chakra has a different color, a different vibration. Each one spins differently and connects different parts of the body. Some believe you have at least 114 different chakras or energy centers in the body.

Our four life energies

Chakras play an essential role in our four life energies. Physical energy, mental energy, emotional energy and spiritual energy. These are all related and overlap to work with each other.

Our chakras can become stuck or blocked which means they have a lack of energy flow which can affect our four life energies. When we go along our life path there are things that create an imbalance in our chakras which cause us to get away from our true divine self. When they are balanced, our chakras can contribute to our immune system and enhance our bodies ability to heal itself. What creates an imbalance in our chakras could be toxic food elements, negative people, negative thoughts and actions, being hurt by others, and just generally going along our life path. So we must balance these regularly to keep our energy aligned.

Small vortex’s in our bodies

Think of chakras as a small vortex within your body lined up with the area of each chakra. They start at the base of your spine and go all the way up through the top of your head. You may have seen a picture of someone doing yoga. It will usually show a person will have their legs are crossed in meditation and you will see the chakra colors and zones going from the spine all the way to the top of the head.

That’s a great way to imagine what chakra’s look like in our bodies. I always say we have the soul, but we also have the body that carries us around this earth plane. Those chakras are vital in order to create the healthy life that we want. Whether it’s using your voice or trusting your gut or opening your heart or standing up for yourself, all these chakras are affecting the things that we do in our life.

Out of alignment

People always ask the question how do you know something’s out of balance? There are several ways to look at it. I think it’s a constant thing that we always have to rebalance our chakras and our energy centers. I have had to address my root chakra lately, so I have been swimming to re-establish my connection to mother earth. It’s that connection that I want, to be on this earth plane and be able to experience life that way. Some people want to know what chakras to start with. I always recommend starting from the root and moving all the way up. If you know there’s one certain area, like your heart’s really closed, or you just don’t trust anybody.  By working on that particular area can also really help create the balance for you.

We all want to be more intuitive and more aligned in our lives. In order to do this our first focus on balance. Our chakra system provides a way for people to balance themselves, to be able to feel spirit more, and to feel energy and to connect to our true selves versus walking around in a fog.

The techniques that I suggest or are very some very easy things that you can do to balance and wrap your head around the entire concept.   I really try to KISS-keep it simple sweetie, so that anyone can begin to use this as a way to understand. I will give you 5 things things you can do for each chakra to get in balance. Take your time and start at the root.

Root Chakra

The root chakra moves the slowest. It’s the color red and at the base of your spine. I remember years ago when I was in my early twenties, I was going through a lot of transitions and the I was really drawn to the color red. It makes sense now. but at the time I didn’t understand what chakras were. If you’ve gone through a lot of changes in your life in the last couple of years, the root chakra needs attention.

Pay attention if you have any injuries to your legs, for example if a knee is a problem, or your feet have issues. If you keep tripping or bumping your legs. These are all symptoms or signs that your root chakra is not as balanced as it could be. A feeling of insecurity, or lacking energy could also mean your root chakra needs attention. If you are receiving judgement from others, that judgement can also create an imbalance in our root chakra. Guilt and shame arise in this area. Our root chakra helps our strength that we need to support us when we go through really difficult times.  I always joke to go hug a tree but seriously-this is a great way to connect with the earth.

  • Yoga pose-Childs Pose
  • Food-Root vegetables, Spicy foods or red foods
  • Walk outdoors barefoot-connect with earth
  • Wear red clothing
  • Use a gemstone Mala for Meditation-Empower

Sacral Chakra

Our second chakra is the sacral chakra and that is the color orange. This is where our creativity is born. It is also tied to our emotions and working harmoniously with others. Most of the time we just don’t give attention to that part of our body. I find that this can be really imbalanced when there has been issues of sexual abuse. It is also characterized by someone who hasn’t felt good about their sensuality. Sometimes when people have fibromyalgia or issues with pregnancy or hormone levels, this can mean that the second chakra could be imbalanced. If there’s something that doesn’t feel healthy regarding that part of your body, the sacral chakra is something to really look at. If you have issues with addiction or over indulgence on balancing our sacral chakra can help. When in balance you will feel comfortable in your own skin.

  • Yoga pose-Butterfly pose
  • Foods to eat-Nuts, orange foods or liquids
  • Gardenia essential oils
  • Wear orange clothing
  • Genstone mala for meditation Release

Solar Plexus Chakra

The third chakra, which I always think is so important, is in charge of our gut feeling, or intuition. It’s the color yellow and resides in our solar plexus. This is a very important one to work on if you are struggling with trust. If you’re trying to be more intuitive, you’re working on connecting with your loved ones or spirit, many times we don’t trust. What will happen is we get this feeling, and we don’t trust it, and then we analyze it. For me, I’ve had to really learn to trust that what spirit wants me to receive, and it’s not for me to change. Sometimes people want to control an outcome, when we cannot always have control.

Really the universe knows much more than we do. I think what happens as we navigate life, we make choices and we feel like we couldn’t trust a situation or an individual, in consequence, we stop trusting our gut. We give up our gut feeling and our ability trust. I tell the story about the first time I got married, I was walking down the aisle thinking, “I shouldn’t do this”. I didn’t trust my gut and of course it didn’t last but I blamed my partner versus recognizing that it was my fault because I did not trust my intuition. It took a while to rebuild that trust in me again. We use our gut for almost everything we do. If you really want to be more intuitive, trust the process of the universe, trust yourself.

  • Yoga pose-Sun Salutation or Plank Pose
  • Foods-Yellow foods, grains, spices ginger and turmeric
  • Laughter-watch comedy
  • Wear yellow
  • Meditation gemstone Mala-Cleanse

Heart Chakra

The color of the heart chakra is green and pink. When it is out of balance it can create emotional instability and inability to discover purpose and passion. We have a tendency to go logical with the heart. Have you been hurt by someone, and are you afraid of finding new love. Love and compassion for yourself, and your own personal journeys is essential to balance here. Understand what unconditional love means, but also, loving things. What is it that really helps your heart sing? You will actually get more things done when your heart has that joy.  When we achieve balance it brings peace, bliss and one can receive and give love wholeheartedly.

  • Yoga pose-Cobra or meditation with hands at the center of your chest
  • Green foods or warm soups and broth
  • Wear green
  • Essential oils Lavender or Jasmine
  • Gemstone meditation Mala Heart Healing

Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is our fifth chakra and is lighter blue in color. Are you using your voice and are you listening to others? How many people have had things with their thyroid, or sore throats, or have coughed a lot? All these things stem from our throat chakra. Do you want to be able to hear your guides, your loved ones. Then you will want to make sure that you take time to listen to when people talk. I feel if you are worried about your value, if people are not listening to you, or if you feel you’re not really being heard, this is the chakra balance. Be authentic and speak your truth. If you feel like you’ve been judged a lot in your life and not listened to, this is also why to work on this chakra.

  • Yoga pose-cobra or camel
  • Foods-Blueberries or blackberries
  • Coconut water or herbal teas
  • Essential oil-frankincense
  • Meditation Mala-Expression

Third Eye Chakra

Perception, intuition, wisdom, creativity, and inspiration are all tied to the third eye chakra. It is the color indigo. It is located in the center of the forehead. My third eye is obviously very active. This is where I have that little movie that goes on in my head. Many don’t trust what they’re visually getting, and that’s where the third eye chakra really helps create that balance.

For me, it’s building another language where I’m able to download or see things to be able to explain, or be shown, from a loved one who was crossed over. If you are not balanced, if you don’t feel like your root chakra or your throat or your third chakra is an alignment, this can create some issues in receiving information in your third eye. All of the sudden you may get this idea and see it in your third eye your mind.

  • Yoga pose-child pose or downward facing dog
  • Purple or blue foods
  • Wear indigo
  • Chocolate
  • Gemstone meditation mala-Spiritual Connection

Crown Chakra

Last but not least is the crown chakra. That would be on top of your head. How many of you sometimes will feel those goosebumps that go down your body, back of your neck? That’s your crown chakra. It is the color purple. You really want to use that energy to help balance all your chakras. You want the root chakra and the crown chakra to all plug in together. It’s like a string of Christmas lights. Think of it like you’re plugging them all in and that they’re all working. That way you know if one is disconnected and as you know, there can be a light bulb out when it gets disconnected, it’s going to mess up your lights. If one of them is not connecting right, then it does create an imbalance.

How do we move forward? How do we create the life we want? One easy thing to do to help with balancing all chakras is just go take a shower and imagine those colors coming down your body. Balancing chakras can be very simplistic and then you can also work on each one in more detail. To help balance the crown chakra, fasting and detoxifying can help clear the mind to better gain that connection to the universe.

  • Fasting or Detoxing
  • Yoga-seated meditation poses
  • Lotus incense
  • Violet or purple foods
  • Mala for meditation-Energy balance

This gives you a like a little appetizer about the energy of chakras. I do have a Chakra Balancing kit that can help you balance all your chakras. Honestly, this is something that you’re always going to be working on and balancing. We have a body that we take care of that we nurture, feed and rest. We must also nurture our soul and chakras that are vital to what we want to create in this world and how we want to heal. Balancing and thus healing your chakras can lead to a more productive, fulfilled life.

Are Your Chakras Out Of Alignment?

I have attached my Tibetan Singing Bowl Chakra Meditation just for you! It’s a Balancing Act for our Chakra’s right now.

These swirling wheels of energy that correspond with our nerve centers in our bodies are spinning wildly right now.  Do you feel it?  I’m sure do. I am working to keep my energy in alignment each day so I thought I would share some information and tips on how to get into and keep in balance.

The word chakra translates to “wheel” and you have seven main chakras or energy centers in your body.  You may have heard the word chakra or have seen the picture of someone doing yoga with the circle of colors that lineup with your spine up to the top of your head.   It is important that all of your energy centers stay open, aligned and fluid.  If there is a blockage, energy flows are restricted.  Much like a drain, if there is something blocking a bathtub drain it won’t drain correctly and water will stagnate.  This is the same with the energy in your body.  If it is blocked it will not move and will back up and stagnate.  The good thing is it is easy to fix.  You can learn to balance your chakras.  Here are some very simple and easy to apply ways to balance your chakra system.

Root Chakra

Root Chakra

The root is the color red and moves the slowest of all the chakras.  It represents our foundation.  On the human body it sits at the base of the spine and gives us the feeling of being grounded.  When this chakra is open, we feel confident in ourselves with the ability to handle challenges and stand on our own two feet.  When it’s blocked, we feel threatened, as if we’re standing on unstable ground.

Some of the ways to see if this chakra is out of balance, you may notice health concerns from the bottom of your spine to your feet.  If you are falling or tripping and emotionally feel afraid that you will not be able to manage things that are unexpected in life.

If you feel that you are in survival mode, this is a clue that this chakra requires some attention.   If your root chakra is out of balance the rest of your chakras will follow.

The element of the first chakra is Earth. Get outside and connect with Mother Earth, this is the best way to begin to stabilize this chakra.  Walk outside with bare feet if you can.  Wear red clothing.

Wear my Hematite bracelet close to your body or on your wrist as this will help “ground” you and decrease anxiety.  Use the mantra “I am grounded therefore, I am safe”. Eat beets, red berries, watermelon or red spices like paprika.

Sacral Chakra

This is the second chakra and is located in the lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel.  It is the color orange and relates to our emotions and the emotions of others.  It supports our creativity and sexual energy, our sense of abundance, well-being, and pleasure when it’s in balance.

When this chakra is blocked it could feel a lack of control in your life.

The element is water and the stone to help with the balance is the Tiger’s Eye.   Go swimming or be near water, sit near a water feature which can help with the healing of this chakra.  Turn on your television to a water fall or water feature, listen to water on a meditation app.   Paint or play a musical instrument,  color a mandala to bring in the creative energy.  Use mandarin or orange oil in a diffuser.

Wear the tigers eye Transformation Mala from my mala collection.

Solar Plexus Chakra

This is the third chakra and it is located in the upper abdomen in the stomach area.  It is the color yellow.  This chakra speaks to your ability to be confident and in control of your life. Do you remember a time when you had butterflies in your stomach or felt an unsteady feeling in your gut?  The third chakra controls our self-worth, confidence and self-esteem.  The element is fire and the stone for this chakra is Amber.

If this chakra is closed, you may feel overwhelming amounts of shame and self-doubt.  I have not listened to my gut feeling and regretted it.

Wear yellow! This goes for all the chakras. By wearing the color of the chakras and by being in touch with the element of the chakra you can help to balance it.  Wear a fluorite Mala (Release) as it is the same vibration as your third eye.  Get out in the sun and under the blue skies.  Connecting with the element of light will help to balance this chakra.

Heart Chakra

This is the fourth chakra and of course it’s where your heart is located, we will put our hand over our hearts when we feel love or sadness in life.  This chakra can influence our ability to give and receive love-from others and ourselves. When this chakra is blocked you will have difficulty opening up to people and sharing your experiences,  I work with so many clients on their heart chakra because most of us are not good at receiving or asking for help, this in itself can create a block.   We need to receive as much as we give to allow this chakra to be open to wonderful things the universe wants to provide.

The Heart chakra controls love, joy and inner peace, it is the color green or pink.  The element is Air and the stone to help balance the heart is Rose Quartz (see the Heart Healing Mala).

Take deep breaths, go out into the open air and exercise by expanding your chest.  We need to be reminded to take deep breaths.  Open a window to feel a breeze or go outside to feel a breeze.  The element of wind can open your heart chakra.  I have my Apple Watch set to remind me to get up and breath.  Our normal breathing does not expand our chest the way we need to open up our heart chakra.  Eat green foods like spinach, green apples, honeydew melon.  Light a green candle or look at pictures of green forests or green in nature.

Throat Chakra

This is the fifth chakra and is located of course in the throat, it is the color blue or turquoise.  This chakra rules over our communication both speaking and listening and when this chakra is balanced, we can express ourselves clearly from our heart.  If this chakra is blocked, you may have trouble expressing to others how you truly feel, and you may also have extreme feelings of guilt, you may feel you aren’t being heard or constantly need to repeat the same things over and over, which leaves you feeling frustrated and ignored.  This chakra also shares the element of truth.

Listen to sound, music, water, a baby’s laughter.  Look at the blue sky or burn a blue candle. Go outside or to a private area where you can vocalize as loud or as soft as you like.  Foods you can enjoy for balancing your throat chakra are blueberries, grapes, black currants, eggplant or plums.

Use aquamarine to heal and balance or get the Expressive Mala which will help you balance.

Third Eye Chakra

This is the sixth chakra and is located on the forehead between our eyes.  This chakra controls our ability to see the big picture and connect to our intuition.  Think of it as the eye of the soul.  Visions and intuitive hits are common for the individual with an open third-eye chakra.

However, the other lower chakras require balance for the third eye to work at it’s best.  If you don’t trust your gut, if you feel not heard or ungrounded then this chakra will be challenged.

The chakra controls intuition, imagination, and wisdom.   The is color purple and the element is light.  Get outside into the sun.  Wear purple or indigo or you can burn a purple candle.  Eat foods high in omega 3’s like nuts or chocolate.  Drink green tea.  Wear amethyst (one of my favorite stones) which is on the Spiritual Connection or Empower with Lapis Lazuli Mala.   Use the mantra “I see clearly” during meditation with your mala.

Crown Chakra

This chakra is the seventh chakra and it sits at the crown of the head and represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. When you fully open your crown chakra-something that can be difficult for most, you are able to access a higher consciousness.  While our root chakra connects us to mother earth, our crown chakra is our gateway to enlightenment and the spiritual realm.

It controls inner and outer beauty and spiritual connection.  The color is violet or white and the stone is clear quartz.  To help open this chakra practicing your spiritual beliefs are essential.  Make this a routine practice.  There is no right or wrong way to practice, just embrace what you believe and make it part of your daily life.  Wear the color violet or burn a violet candle.  I recommend you create a space that is violet, eat white or violet colored foods like onions, white potatoes, plums, grapes, figs, or raisins as this will address an imbalance.

All chakras go into and out of balance from time to time as they can become unbalanced from what happens in our day to day lives. The foods we eat, the conditions of our homes, our job or the people in our life can affect how we can become unbalanced.  Paying attention to our bodies and what we say and think can block or unblock our energy.

When we understand that there is something beyond us, something bigger than just what happens in our daily lives, we can grow and love with a greater capacity.

More easy things to do to balance your chakras:

Listen to or read positive things.  Have fresh flowers or plants in your environment.  Choose the color of clothing you wear with purpose to balance your chakras.  Find things to laugh about or watch comedy.  Hand write a letter to a friend or family member.  Get out-doors, this will do wonders for all of your chakras.  Cook your favorite meal.  Dance!  Drink water and exercise.  Adopt a shelter animal and spoil it rotten. Get off social media or the news for a while because this will help lessen your stress.  Wear a Chakra Balance Mala

The key to chakras is to pay attention and to keep them balanced an aligned. Understanding your emotions and your body can help you identify where your chakra energy is blocked to maintain the balance.

Here is my chakra mediation I created with singing bowls to help balance all your chakras, give it a try.

Are you a giver? Are you tired of giving so much?

Do you ask yourself these questions?

When will I receive more money?
When will I meet someone that is good to me?

When can I have someone take care of me for a change?

The law of attraction says that when you are always giving, people and circumstances will be there and meet you to take from you.  Until you learn to receive you may not receive the abundance the Universe wants to give you.

Clients will schedule a session just because they are exhausted. They can’t seem to find a balance in life.  They give so much and create a situation where they cannot find a partner that is equal in giving.  I call it the “project” versus the “partner”.  Those of us that are the ultimate givers are told that giving is a good thing.  It is a good personality trait to have but some of us of can’t seem to balance giving with receiving.

I have found that people who constantly give to their families, friends, and co-workers until they are just exhausted will become ill.  This is the only way they can learn to stop giving and start receiving. The Universe makes us stop and ask for help.  It is a difficult way to learn this lesson.   So why not learn it before this happens to you.

Think about this, when a friend takes you out to lunch do you always want to pick up the tab?  Are you uncomfortable if they insist?  Do you offer to pay the tip, or you tell them you will pick it up next time?  Or better yet, if you know they are picking up the bill do you look at the price of what you want to order and then choose something more reasonable?  When someone is willing to give to you maybe you accept their generosity instead of feeling guilty.  How does giving make you feel.  Good right? Your friends feel good giving to you as well.

This doesn’t mean you stop giving, it means that you are creating a balance. The Yin and Yang are necessary for true balance. This Chinese symbol has been around for centuries.  It describes that balance is needed everywhere.  Just like our sun and moon, if they were not in constant balance, we would not exist.

In the Yin/Yang which color do you think is feminine and which one masculine?

The Yin is the color black, and the Yang is the opposite color which is white.  People are surprised that the feminine side is black.  This is because we need to receive to procreate, we are born from the darkness, we are the night and the moon.  Masculine has to give to procreate.  They are external, and they represent the sun and they must give to procreate.

I believe that especially the feminine energy is here to receive.  Many women give so much that men have a difficult time knowing how to give to a woman.  Women want to feel independent and choose not to rely on others.   Independence is awesome, but it can become too unbalanced and we may end up creating a life of only giving.   That’s when we become tired, ill and feeling alone. It will continue until you decide that giving isn’t the only virtue or value that makes up who you are.

I actually believe that when you ask others for help or let them give to you, it makes them feel you value and trust them.   You are bringing them joy.

Simply put, your life purpose is learning how to change things you’re not good at so that life can be a balance.  You will trust your intuition more, your health can improve, and you can learn to love yourself.  Is it worth it to learn to receive?

One simple suggestion to try out receiving and to recognize your patterns, when someone gives you a compliment about your hair, clothes, or whatever it may be, don’t play it down.  Accept the compliment with gratitude, just say thank you, that’s so kind of you to notice.  You may catch yourself wanting to give some sort of brush off like “I’ve had this outfit forever” or “I got it on sale”.  Notice how this feels to you.  It may feel uncomfortable to just say thank you and accept the compliment.

Until you realize that is it a good thing to also receive you may not receive that abundance you could from the Universe.  Learning to receive is a life lesson and a Soul Contract.

Receiving is receiving and don’t throw the gift of it away.  Just doing this you can begin to feel what receiving is like.  Trust me, it feels incredible!
